Do you suffer from Vertigo, Meniere’s disease, dizziness, or balance issues
Are you worried about falling over?
Have you stopped walking as far or walking on uneven ground because you’re worried you may lose your balance?
Is there one side in particular you feel you lose your balance on more easily?
Do you find you veer to one side when you’re walking?
The problem may be coming from your vestibular system.
So what is the vestibular system?
The vestibular system is a part of your inner ear that helps you keep your balance. It includes structures like the semicircular canals and otolith organs, which detect head movements and send this information to your brain. This system helps you stay steady and know your position in space.
Vestibular rehab or training may help improve your balance and increase your confidence in your mobility.
What do you do for vestibular rehab?
Vestibular Rehab Therapy (VRT) involves exercises that aim to reduce dizziness, vertigo, and balance issues. It helps the brain adapt to changes in the inner ear by using other senses like vision and touch to maintain balance. VRT involves focusing on a target and moving your head or moving the target and keeping your head still. It can be done sitting or standing depending on your balance and confidence and aims to improve how your brain interprets input from your senses.
