Falls Prevention
As we grow older, the risk of falls becomes greater. This in turn can become a problem for older adults, as they are not only more susceptible to injury but also can hinder one’s ability to live independently.
So, what causes falls?
Losing our balance appears to be the number one cause of falls in older adults. However, there are many other common risk factors that contribute to your falls risk. Some of these include:
- Reduced muscle strength
- Cognitive impairments
- Slow reaction times
- Visual impairment
- Limitations in mobility and undertaking activities of daily living
- Multiple medications such as those that treat mental health conditions.
- Fear of falling
